Can I take a misophonia test?

There are several validated assessment tools to determine the severity of a person’s misophonia symptoms. They are still being tested for further scientific validity.

The S-Five Survey, for example, asks you to identify your triggers, how they make you feel, and how intense those feelings are. You can skip the triggers section if it makes you feel uncomfortable. The statements section of the S-Five provides you with statements about how you think, feel, and are negatively affected by misophonia. You are asked to answer to what extent those statements are true for you.

The second-to-last section of the Duke Misophonia Questionnaire (DMQ) assesses the extent to which misophonia symptoms negatively affect or impair the respondent. Impairment scores between 0-13 indicate “minimal-mild impairment”, 14-38 is considered “moderate impairment”, and scores between 39-48 on this section of the DMQ indicate “severe to very severe impairment”.

Self-assessment methods are not a substitute for an official diagnosis. However, given that there are not yet official diagnostic criteria for misophonia and so it cannot be professionally diagnosed, you can use these tools to make an informed self-assessment of misophonia.
